Miss Rodeo California, Jackie Scarry will be a special guest at the Redding Rodeo. She’ll be helping push cattle and helping out with all of Redding Rodeo’s local events. Catch her at the Steak Feed, Special Kids Day, and the Pancake Breakfast on Friday morning. Jackie was named Miss Redding Rodeo in 2017 and has come full circle as she is now Miss Rodeo California 2022.

Jackie’s journey is simply inspiring. Through hard work she’s accomplished so much and she’s only 25 years old. She was born and raised in Redding, California, and always had a passion for horses. Jackie was about five years old when she first got on her mom’s paint gelding horse and since then she’s been hooked. From there she took a couple of lessons on a miniature pony named Bliki along with her mom teaching her some skills. Jackie continued to do research on riding and taught herself.

In 2008, Jackie joined the Redding Junior Rodeo Association drill team as well as the Redding Rodeo Association and rode with them for many years up until 2015. Then Jackie decided she was going to chase a childhood dream which was being Miss Redding Rodeo. She had met her first Miss Redding Rodeo, Josey Kelly in 2004. The former Miss Redding Rodeo had inspired Jackie to be that kind of person who inspires others to pursue their dreams.

In 2015 Jackie tried for the first title of Miss Cottonwood Rodeo but unfortunately didn’t get it. She didn’t let that stop her.

“You win some, you lose some. It’s all a learning experience.”

In 2016, Jackie ran for the first time for the Redding Rodeo and got the first runner-up, second place. Jackie had a blast representing the Redding Rodeo as their first runner-up. She decided she was going to give it a second chance and leave it up to God if she won or not. Jackie stated, “I ran and put 110% forward. I ended up winning the title and just lived life to the fullest in 2017.” Jackie traveled all over California and into Nevada representing the Redding Rodeo.

Jackie decided she wasn’t done with queening from there. She was determined and purchased the PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association) rulebook, PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association) media guide, and the WPRA (Women’s Professional Rodeo Association) rulebook. Jackie started studying all the rules including the tack and equipment. She ran for Miss Rodeo California in 2018 and got first runner-up, second place. That was a huge eye-opener to Jackie with having only one title under her belt. She ran against eight other girls and did very well as she had won in horsemanship. From there Jackie knew she wasn’t done and ran for 2019 Miss Gold Country Pro Rodeo Queen and ended up winning the title. Jackie then ran again for Miss Rodeo California and won the title for 2022.

Jackie’s duties as Miss Rodeo California include traveling while promoting the sport of rodeo, the western way of life, and the agricultural industry in California. Her duties also include being a role model for young children to look up to. Jackie is using her platform as well to promote law enforcement and back the blue which is something she’s very passionate about.

Jackie stays very busy, when she’s not queening she is a medical assistant at Redding Dermatology and a sales associate at Hawes Farm and Ranch. She also recently completed her associate’s degree in Administration of Justice.

Eventually, she’ll be going back to school to complete her bachelor’s degree in Crime Scene Investigations as her goal is to enter law enforcement once she completes her degree.

Everything about the Redding Rodeo is incredible but Jackie has a favorite that’s close to her heart, Special Kids Day. It’s a day at the Redding Rodeo dedicated to kids with special needs. The kids will get to experience the rodeo life, ride horses, have a lunch provided, and just have a blast. Special Kids Day is Monday, May 16, 2022, starting at 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM located on the Redding Rodeo Grounds.

“It’s a fun time getting to see these children light up when they’re on a horse or just petting a horse. It’s what made me fall in love with Redding Rodeo in the first place.”
