About the National Little Britches Rodeo Association

Established in 1952, NLBRA caters to children aged 5 to 18 and is a rodeo organization that promotes fair competition and good sportsmanship. Its primary objective is to cultivate a sense of healthy competition and appreciation for sports among its members and their families through rodeo events.

The Competetion

Over 500 youth rodeos in 33 states are sanctioned annually by the Association, providing ample opportunities for NLBRA members to accrue points and become eligible for the National Finals Rodeo. Every year, more than 3,300 kids from 33 states participate in NLBRA rodeos. At both local and National Finals events, contestants compete for a range of prizes including saddles, buckles, scholarships, and cash. Those who compete at local events work to qualify for the annual National Finals Rodeo.

Perspective

One aspect of the NLBRA that I admire most is how welcoming they are to new contestants. “Everyone there, the announcer, the judges, the other contestants and those sitting in the stands were cheering for my kid,” says World Champion Bull Rider Cody Custer. “And, then I realized that they weren’t just cheering on my kid, but every kid who entered the arena. It was a great experience and we look forward to being members for many years to come.”

Hosting the Next Generation at the Lazy E

The NLBFR is returning to the Lazy E Arena once again for this ultimate showcase of youth rodeo talent. The Lazy E is known as a premier event venue – from giving PBR its start to the Cinch Timed Event Championship of the World, world champions, world championships, and personalities galore have graced the arena.

In 2021, the NLBRA hosted 1613 contestants, who competed for the more than $380,000 in awards and college scholarships that were available during the weeklong competition, making it the largest youth rodeo under one roof in the world. The Lazy E Arena has hosted the event since 2021, and has estimated the annual economic impact at nearly $20 million! It’s amazing witnessing the growth of youth rodeo competitions across the country, and they just keep getting better and better every year.

Visiting Guthrie

Guthrie is a charming small town with a rich history, and visitors can explore its many historic sites and museums. This small town has an old-school charm with its brick streets, cool old buildings, and friendly, laid-back vibe. You can wander through antique shops, grab a bite at a local café, or catch some live music. It’s a great spot if you’re into history, especially with places like the Oklahoma Territorial Museum, but there’s also plenty of activities for the whole family. Whether you’re there for the week or just passing through, Guthrie’s a place that’s easy to enjo crey!

As the dust settles and champions are crowned, one thing is clear: the spirit of rodeo is alive and well, and its future is in great hands! The NLBFA didn’t get its slogan, “Where Legends Begin,” for nothing! Don’t miss your chance to be part of the action and witness rodeo history in the making.
