College rodeo has taken the world by storm, growing in popularity and bringing people together from all over the country to take part in some exciting, family fun action. And the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) is leading the charge, continuing its efforts to promote a rugged all-American sport. Currently, the NIRA is managing the 2016 college rodeo season that will end with the 2017 College National Finals Rodeo at the Casper Events Center in Casper, Wyoming.

College rodeos are a great and highly competitive sport, bringing together male and female superstars on college campuses across the country. Between study time at the library, these young people find time for saddle bronc riding, bull riding, bare back riding, tie-down roping, team roping, steer wrestling, barrel racing, breakaway roping and goat tying. They are enthused about the opportunity to sign up with the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association, forming teams and competing for the chance to win scholarships and recognition.
It’s hard to believe the NIRA has been around five decades. That’s right, 50 years! Their first event took place in the Spring of 1949 with 13 schools participating. Today, over 100 schools will be involved, encompassing 400 cowboys and cowgirls. For the 2016-2017 calendar, the event will be going to Big Sky, Rock Mountain, the West Coast and more. In September, you’ll find college rodeo at Idaho State and Utah State. Over the next year, they’ll be at Cochise College, Mesalands Community College, North Dakota State University, Feather River College and West Hills College. Each event will see the best of the best prove their worth at one of the 11 regionals so that they can get to the finals in Casper.
Depending on what event you attend, expect events like Family Day, Monday Slack Round, Bulls & Broncs, live performances and great eats. If you want to know more, you can find the NIRA interactive calendar http://www.collegerodeo.com/events/.
No matter which event you attend, keep an eye out for the Cowboy Lifestyle Network, Ak-Chin Indian Community and Earnhardt Auto Centers Road Team. These media teams will be keeping everyone informed of the winners and action, writing articles, and releasing videos and photos. Like anything cowboy, college rodeo is high on the list of the Cowboy Lifestyle Network, a leading online source and community for these events. They’re going to make sure every fan knows exactly what’s happening with the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association and college rodeo.
