Each year as July rolls around, Utah residents are filled with excitement as one of the PRCA’S greatest outdoor rodeos takes place in Ogden, Utah, it’s time for Ogden Pioneer Days 2021! Being rated one of America’s top five rodeos to attend, this event is not just family-oriented but rich in history and greatly cherished.
During the great depression, citizens of Ogden were suffering in many ways along with other Americans all across the country. Luckily, Mayor Harman Peery developed a plan to pull his people out of the depression by utilizing rodeo and ranching financially and emotionally. Over 80 years later, Mayor Peery’s vision continues to be fulfilled.
Today our pioneer heritage and the spirit of the west are both celebrated every July during the festivities of Ogden Pioneer Days. The rodeo committee is planning on reaching full capacity each night as some special faces will be seen on the grounds. Stace Smith and his renowned livestock will be providing for an undoubtedly incredible matchup between elite cowboys and cowgirls coming to compete. Trick rider, Jessica Blair, will wow the audience as America’s number one rodeo clown, John Harrison keeps a smile on every face in the crowd. A motorcycle daredevil team will top off the night at each performance with a thrilling show.
Each evening of this year’s rodeo will highlight a different theme to honor important industries in today’s world. Tuesday, July 20, will be Family & Education night. Students, staff, and administration of local schools will be recognized and celebrated. Wednesday, July 21, will be focused on celebrating National Day of the American Cowboy and First Responders. On Thursday, July 22, every patriotic heart will have the chance to recognize Patriot & Military Appreciation Night. Following tradition, Friday will be Tough Enough to Wear Pink night, honoring survivors and victims of breast cancer and other diseases. The final performance of Ogden Pioneer Days Rodeo will be on Saturday, July 24, celebrating Pioneer Days 2021.
Aside from all of this excitement, Ogden will be treated each night with pre rodeo events such as mutton busting, barrel racing and pole bending, musical chairs jackpot, Miss Rodeo Utah freestyle horsemanship competition, and cowboy mounted shooters. They will also hold a special needs rodeo on July 13 at 5 pm.
