Red Cloud’s War: Fighting Season

Legends of the Old West Podcast are excited to introduce the second episode in their new season, Red Cloud’s War: Fighting Season.  After hearing the story of the Sand Creek Massacre, Red Cloud makes his first coordinated attacks on army outposts on the High Plains. Lakota and Cheyenne warriors make a large-scale assault on the isolated garrison of Bridge Station, but the results are mixed.

In response, the U.S. Army sends thousands of troopers in pursuit of Red Cloud. The soldiers spend weeks baking under the summer sun and then battling the erratic fall weather of the Northern Plains. They fight off an ambush from Sitting Bull’s warriors and finally close in on Red Cloud. They surprise him in his camp, but then they learn the hard lessons of a fighting season on the frontier.
