Red Dirt country musicians have been kicking up dust and making quite the name for themselves. Lately, up and comer Randall King, is doing just that. Drawing inspiration from country legends such as George Strait and Merle Haggard, King is bringing the traditional country sound back to our stereos. Randall grew up in the small town of Hereford, Texas, moving to Lubbock for college in 2009. While attending Texas Tech for a business degree, he fell in love with country music and decided to become a musician himself. Two years later, he decided to transfer to South Plains College and switched his business degree to music production. In 2016, he released his first EP titled, Another Bullet, as he road-tripped around the country, performing an astounding 150 shows each year.
The Warner Music Nashville recording artist is about as straight forward as it gets. Randall states that he is who is, despite what anyone else wants. He claims that his music is the same way. The singer-songwriter pulls lyrics from “the three stages of heartbreak” and never strays from keeping his personal stories within each song. Currently on tour, outside of multiple shows in his home state of Texas, you can catch one of Randall’s shows across the midwest and west coast, including locally here in Arizona at Denim & Diamonds in Mesa this Friday, March 6th.
Randall King’s latest release, “Hey Cowgirl” talks of the rodeo Queen everyone knows, but no one can tie down. In an interview with Red 11 Music, Randall states,
“That song is acceptance. You see the girl out on the highway, you tip your hat and watch her fly down the road. To me the beauty of that song is the respect aspect, especially with it having that rodeo culture. … It’s a nod the head, ‘Good luck, good bye. We’re on to bigger and better things, and we’re both right where we need to be.'”
