[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Sandhills Stock Show and Rodeo is coming back to Odessa, Texas, for another season of fun and excitement. Beginning on January 3rd, this annual festival of the cowboy way of life will continue until the 13th. The Sandhills Rodeo is approved and regulated by the PRCA, or Professional Rodeo Cowboy’s Association. This professional group ascertains that the show is safe and fun for both the animals and the humans.
One of the best things about the rodeo and the stock show is the way that it introduces young people to the life of the ranch. There will be farm animals of every kind at Sandhills Stock Show, including heifers, steers, goats, kids, sheep, lambs, and every kind of horse. All these animals will be displayed by their owners and caretakers, and many of these fine folk will be standing right there to answer questions. On Saturday the 6th and Sunday the 7th there will be large events where all the livestock will be shown and evaluated, and prizes will be distributed to the winners. This is a real opportunity for the future farmers of America to learn more about their craft.
However, the real star of the show is always going to be the Sandhills Rodeo. After grouping the steers into weight classes, some of the best working cowboys and enthusiastic amateurs saunter out to the ring and take their chances. Riding a bucking steer has been called the most thrilling eight seconds in sports, and the spectators at the Sandhills Rodeo will see enough action to last a lifetime. Some of the young folks may even decide they want to give it a try.
The 2018 Sandhills Stock Show and Rodeo also provides space for concessions and all sorts of family fun. There will be a livestock sale to close off the stock show, and the rodeo has other events galore. There is a steer roping contest, bullfighting, and rodeo clowns. Kids will be excited and delighted as they learn important facts about farming and animals. What is more, they will make social connections with other young farmers and ranchers that will bear fruit in later years.
