Reviews tout “exceptional off-road capability,” which includes TRD-tuned FOX QS3 shocks and an electronic stabilizer bar disconnect. The Tacoma recently underwent a complete makeover, adding new features, strengths and advantages, noted a Car and Driver review.

The nonhybrid version cranks out up to 278 horsepower from its turbocharged four-cylinder engine, while the hybrid option delivers 326 horsepower. When Car and Driver tested this version of the Tacoma, they said it reached 60 miles per hour in 7.0 seconds. Available rear-coil-spring suspension smooths out bumpy roads or trails, noted Car and Driver, and an improved seating position should provide increased comfort.

The dashboard now features upgraded materials, high-resolution screens and digital gear. TRD Off-Road models and up feature a larger, 12.3-inch all-digital unit, with some models hosting a 14.0-inch display. Every model includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. An optional wireless charging pad can keep drivers even more connected, along with an optional Bluetooth speaker that can be detached from the dashboard.

A heads-up display comes standard on the Limited, said Car and Driver, along with heated and cooled front seats. Every model also has a raised seating position with increased headroom, according to Car and Driver’s review. Also, a more adjustable steering column should make the truck more comfortable for people of different sizes.

The Xtra Cab only pairs with a six-foot cargo bed, but the Double Cab features either the longer box or a shorter five-foot version.

Driver-assist technology features include automatic high-beam headlamps. Blind-spot monitoring and rear-cross-traffic alert options can also be added, said Car and Driver.
