Western Small Business Feature: Top Hand Media

Written by

Here at Cowboy Lifestyle Network, we are all about supporting small businesses which is how this series was born. Now every month, I am thrilled to highlight a small business in the western, ag, or rural space. If you’re interested in applying to be featured, check the link at the bottom of this article! This month, I am excited to introduce Taylor Kelner, an entrepreneur and college student who runs and owns Top Hand Media. Let’s dive in!

Krysta: Can you tell our audience a little about yourself?

Taylor: I was born & raised in southwest Arkansas on a cattle operation and showing registered Angus cattle. As I grew up I knew my true love was Jesus and agriculture. It’s in my genes (4th generation rancher), and it is what my life revolves around. The older I got the more I set my sites on being involved in the industry. I started Top Hand Media in March 2019 with the goal of developing brands, logos, and social media content for agriculture-related businesses. From there it has expanded into photography, graphic design, and web design. In May of 2020, I opened Branded TK, a western fashion boutique designed for the “uptown ranch hand”. We sell items that can be worn out on the town as well as on the ranch. Showing cattle has allowed me to broaden my reach of connections and friends across the county and given me opportunities to educate the younger generation. In Dec of 2021, I hosted, organized, and executed the first annual Southwest Cattle Clinic where I (along with a staff of 20+ people) worked with less experienced showmen on how to become better in the show ring, taking care of their cattle at home, and being professional while doing it. It is without a doubt the biggest undertaking but has the biggest reward. After graduating high school in May of 2022 I opened Southwest Magnawave to help performance livestock look and feel their best at events.

Krysta: How did you get started in your business?

Taylor: I wanted to make a difference and work at my own pace. No one believes in you if you don’t believe in yourself, and who wants to hire a 15-year-old. So I decided to build something of my own. After asking questions until I was blue in the face, I was able to start each of my businesses.

Krysta: What motivates you in your business?

Taylor: Success. I am goal-oriented and each of my businesses has individualized goals that motivate me daily.

Krysta: What makes your business unique from others?

Taylor: I feel as if each business is unique because of who is running it. I work to provide quality items and services to my customers, and always work until they are satisfied.

Krysta: Where do you want to be in the next 3 years?

Taylor: I hope to have graduated from Oklahoma State University and live somewhere in Oklahoma or Texas running my businesses. After graduation, I hope to add a seed stock herd, providing high quality Angus and Brangus cattle, to my list of businesses.

Taylor’s Closing Thoughts

Don’t stop dreaming. Don’t be scared because you’re young. Believe in yourself, and others will too.

I am active on Instagram and Facebook, I along with all of my businesses have pages on both platforms!
