At one time, bull riding enthusiasts waited in anticipation until the end of each rodeo to enjoy their favorite event. However, that changed in 1992 when nearly two dozen professional bull riders combined financial resources and worked together to establish the Professional Bull Riders association. The group’s main desire was to make bull riding a standalone sport. Needless to say, they were successful. Now, hundreds of riders in the United States and various world countries belong to the PBR. The U.S., Australia, Brazil and Canada are some of the countries that annually host hundreds of bull riding events to the joy of Western sports followers and bull riding fans.
For the third year in a row, the Professional Bull Riders BlueDEF Velocity Tour has a full event calendar that welcomes amateur and experienced Western athletes alike to compete, accrue points and thrill fans across the country. Each PBR BlueDEF Velocity Tour event spans one or more nights and promises exciting, live competition.
Professional bull riders have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills by riding at least two different bulls while being observed by a panel of PBR judges and an arena filled with spectators. Each athlete and bull score points during each eight second ride. The rider accumulating the greatest number of points at the end of the event becomes the champion. In addition to providing professional bull riders with the chance to build point standings and recognition on the tour, points awarded additionally enable riders to qualify for the PBR Built Ford Tough Series.
