For Martin Holt, getting help with his VA benefits wasn’t a new goal. He had tried before, spending years dealing with the process without getting the results he hoped for. What changed was finding someone who was willing to listen, explain the next steps, and stay with him throughout the process. About two and a half years ago, a conversation at a military reunion introduced him to True Vet Solutions. That introduction would eventually change Holt’s experience with the VA benefits process.

Finding a Different Path
A U.S. Army Veteran who served on active duty from 1985 to 1992, Holt was with the 101st Airborne Division during Desert Storm. Years after leaving the military, he found himself still dealing with the effects of his service and trying to navigate the VA benefits system. About 10 years ago, he pursued a rating but said he had little success.
“I had zero luck,” he says. “I only got 10 percent, and I was having issues. I had everything documented, and it was like a dead end, basically.”
When he connected with True Vet Solutions, the process felt different from the beginning.
“They got all my information, worked with me, made it really simple,” Holt says. “They just really gave me guidance and helped me get through everything.”
True Vet Solutions helped Holt understand the steps he could take and the information he could discuss with his medical providers. Holt says he later received a 100% VA disability rating. VA made that determination, and individual outcomes vary.
More Than a Number
For Holt, the outcome was about more than reaching a particular percentage. It was the result of finally having someone help him navigate a process that had previously left him feeling stuck.
“They show you everything that you need to do, and that’s what I was missing. It was a lifesaver for me. True Vet listened. I was really impressed,” he praises.
That feeling of being heard is something Holt says he hadn’t experienced with other organizations. The difference was significant enough that he has since recommended True Vet Solutions to at least four other Veterans. He knows two who are currently working with the organization and says they are doing well. His advice to other Veterans is straightforward: don’t assume you have to figure it out alone.
“You just have to go with True Vet and listen to them,” he says. “If you listen to True Vet, they will give you guidance and tell you things you never even thought of. If it weren’t for their advice and telling me how I need to do things, I would just be stuck in limbo. Listen to them and do what they tell you, because they will listen to you. They’re the first people to actually listen.”
From Client to Community
Holt’s relationship with True Vet Solutions didn’t end when his benefits process was complete. In fact, it has continued through another part of the organization’s mission: showing up for Veterans and supporting the communities where they live and gather.
True Vet Solutions sponsors a growing number of sports and Western events, including rodeos and PBR events, where the organization recognizes Veterans and creates opportunities to bring attention to their service. Holt has seen that side of the organization firsthand. When True Vet Solutions came to Nashville for the Music City Rodeo, Holt made a point of finding the team.
“I said, ‘I don’t know y’all, but I am so and so. I wanna shake each and every one of your hands,’” he says. “Every time I hear they’re in town, I always go down to the arena. I have their numbers, and I can text any of them if I ever have any questions or anything. They are really there to help.”

Getting Started
The process begins with a one-on-one consultation with a Veteran benefits consultant. From there, True Vet Solutions helps and coaches the Veteran on the steps they can take to file their own claim, organize the information needed to understand the Veteran’s circumstances, and determine what steps may be appropriate. Rather than asking Veterans to figure out which documents matter or where to begin on their own, the team explains what information Veterans may want to locate and review as they decide on their next steps. Then True Vet Solutions develops a personalized strategy based on the Veteran’s individual circumstances, and coaches the Veteran on the steps they can take to file their own claim.
