Businesses within the Ak-Chin Indian Community offer plenty of specials to keep your holiday season merry and bright. Gaming, dining and golfing are just a few of the many activities to enjoy.

Finish your last-minute shopping and find unique gifts at the “Mingle ‘N Jingle” event at the UltraStar Multi-tainment Center at Ak-Chin Circle. More than 35 local vendors are scheduled to set up in the lobby from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, December 17.  This free event is open to the public so don’t miss it! The UltraStar Multi-tainment Center also offers Winter Wonderland nightly with an outdoor ice rink, fire pits, and s’mores.

A visit to Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino in Maricopa might put some extra jingle in your pockets. On December 25, all Total Rewards® club members receive $10 in free slot play after earning at least one Tier Credit® at their favorite slot machine from 8am to 11:59pm. Bingo, another casino favorite, is also offered on Christmas Day.

Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino offers a Holiday Sweepstakes on Thursdays in December for current or new Total Rewards members. One lucky winner is announced every 30 minutes to claim $150 in free slot play between noon and 7 p.m.!   To activate and enter, swipe at the Promotional Kiosks from 11:30 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. Not a Total Reward member? Sign up today and receive $10 in free slot play when you sign up with a valid email address. Enrollment is free!

The Buffet at Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino

Come hungry for plenty of special-occasion meals.  The Range Steakhouse at Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino hosts a Holiday Weekend Prix Fixe Menu, December 23–25, . Diners can dive into the three-course holiday meal or enjoy the many favorites of the regular menu selections. The Buffet at Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino serves up a Christmas Day spread including regular menu items and multiple seafood varieties for $35.99.

The Arroyo Grille at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club also offers plenty of fun during the month of December.  For wine lovers, the next Wine 101 class happens Wednesday, December 21 with tasting, cheeses, and crudités at The Arroyo Grille. Classes started in November and will run for four months. A graduation celebration at the last class will be offered, which makes this deal even better! Carolyn Sostrom

Carolyn Sostrom is a long-time Arizona resident who loves desert sunsets, warm weather, Zumba, and the Western lifestyle. She attended Saguaro High School in Scottsdale and then Arizona State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism. Similarly to the protagonist in *The Devil Wears Prada*, Carolyn moved to New York City right after college. She started working for the fashion magazine company Conde Nast but never transitioned to the dark side. After a few years, she left New York in the rearview mirror and returned to her home state, taking a reporter job at the *Apache Junction Independent*. With over 30 years of freelance writing experience, Carolyn especially enjoys writing about community events and profiling individuals who are making a difference in their communities. She had the pleasure of interviewing a variety of cowboy personalities for an article she wrote for the *Scottsdale Independent* about the history of DC Ranch and its roots as a working ranch. Now, her Western adventures with CLN have her diving into the rugged automotive scene, exploring the trucks and rigs cowboys rely on for work, home, and play, a niche where grit meets horsepower. She works at Raising Special Kids, a nonprofit resource center for families of children with disabilities and special healthcare needs. Carolyn also volunteers with the Autism Society of Greater Phoenix. Carolyn believes that everyone has a story, and she loves connecting with others to hear their stories. She’s dedicated to ethical journalism and accurate reporting, which shines through in her storytelling.
