Red Steagall Cowboy Gathering Story

Thirty-two years ago a group of people who were passionate about the rich culture of the Western way of life gathered together at the Cowtown Coliseum. They all agreed that Fort Worth was the perfect location for a cowboy poetry gathering. Even though the weather wasn’t permitting the first weekend with eleven inches of rain, they still remained there after over thirty years of celebration.

The group of people had put together a program that even today celebrates the men and women who make their living on horseback working cattle to provide beefsteak for the dinner tables of America. Over the thirty-plus years, they’ve continued to grow and serve as a platform to present competitions for their scholarship program awarded to young individuals, as of today, exceeds $1,000,000. The award is made to deserving young people who want to further their education.

Their audience comes from all over this great nation as well as other parts of the world. The thrill of the ranch rodeo, the entertainment value of poetry presentations as well as cowboy music, the sights, sounds, and smells of the chuckwagon camp, and the time spent dancing to Western swing music make for a fun-filled family Western weekend.
