Scheer Talent

On the Road with Cort Scheer

Twelve years ago, a rancher’s son from Elsmere, Nebraska, bought his PRCA card hoping and believing he could earn a living with his bronc saddle. Today, with career earnings over $1M, that’s working out just fine for him.

Scheer has five Wrangler National Finals Rodeo is behind him. He won the Elite Rodeo Athlete’s Bronc Riding Championship in 2016 and is currently 27th and climbing the PRCA World Standings. Since the first day, he crawled on a horse hoping he’d buck, his dream hasn’t changed. He wants to be written into the Professional Rodeo Cowboy’s Association history books under World Champion Bronc Rider and he’s not quitting until it happens.

The one thing that eclipses Scheer’s talent and relentless effort is the almost permanent smile that flashes pearly white teeth and a Western welcome sign for everybody he meets. His ability on the world’s best buckers has built his reputation while his strategy for seeking gold is all business.

“I don’t try to go to as many rodeos a year as I can,” said Scheer. “The nature of the WNFR is mercurial: it rarely matters if you go there leading the field or got in 15th at the last rodeo of the regular qualifying season. The money offered in Las Vegas is so lucrative that the game is changeable through out the top fifteen contestants. I try to enter smart, ride every horse I draw and earn that slot on the roster of WNFR qualifiers. From that moment on, it’s keeping your eyes on the prize and not letting the dazzle of Sin City interfere with your game.”

Back home on his ranch in Elsmere, Scheer raises beef cattle and a few good saddle horses.
