Where High-End Elegance Meets True Western Heritage: The Heart and Soul of Mavericks of Scottsdale

There is an undeniable magic when you step through the doors of Maverick in Old Town Scottsdale. It is more than the rich aroma of hand-worked leather or the cool shimmer of genuine Southwestern turquoise catching the Sonoran light; it is an authentic, emotional connection to the American West. Every hat brim steam-shaped to perfection, every pair of hand-stitched boots along the walls, and every pearl snap carries a story rooted in tradition, craftsmanship, and a deep, unyielding passion for frontier heritage.

Born in Santa Fe, Rooted in Arizona

The Maverick story began across state lines in the high-desert enclave of Santa Fe, New Mexico. In those early years, the business carried an unmistakably posh, high-end feel. It was a haven built around exquisite turquoise jewelry, fine custom goldsmithing through “Gold Works,” precise horseshoeing, and artisan leather craft.

Yet, as the vision grew, the call of Arizona became impossible to resist. The team moved the business west to tap into a landscape that breathed a deeper, more ruggedly authentic Western identity. The move made natural sense: after all, the vibrant turquoise gracing their Santa Fe showcases was already coming directly from Arizona’s world-famed mines.

It was only upon arriving in Old Town Scottsdale that the full frontier spirit truly took hold. Scottsdale marked the exciting introduction of authentic working spurs, hand-crafted saddles, and timeless snap-pearl shirts to Maverick’s lineup. Today, visitors from every corner of the globe travel to Old Town Scottsdale, stepping through Maverick’s doors to taste a piece of true American craftsmanship.

Knowledge, Leather, Furs, and Fringe

At Maverick, shopping is far more than a transaction it is an immersive education. The staff takes great pride in sharing their knowledge with every guest, guiding each customer through the history, fit, and stories behind the pieces they carry.

Having had the privilege to visit the store and interview both the owner and manager, their genuine warmth and hospitality stand out immediately. In their own words:

“We take pride in educating our customers. We want to be a lifeline for future generations. You don’t have to own 800 head of cattle or be a rancher to be welcomed into our store; we welcome anyone.”

About the Author:

Biography:

I grew up on a Midwest farm with dirt under my fingernails and the sound of wind rustling through cornfields. My childhood was all about 4H – raising pigs and horses, learning to bake and sew, and discovering the magic of transforming a garden into jars of summer sunshine. Those years taught me the value of hard work, the thrill of seeing a project through to the end, and the simple joy of creating something beautiful. A country girl with a need for speed and a thirst for adventure. Maybe that's why I love the feeling of wind in my hair – whether I'm cruising down a dusty road on my Harley or tackling a mountain trail on my trusty mountain bike. Some of my earliest memories of rodeo are watching my father compete at small local events. That's also where my love for country music comes in – long car rides listening to 8 tracks. The lyrics and melodies always spoke to my soul. These days, you'll find me cheering on the cowboys and cowgirls at rodeos, two-stepping to my favorite bands, belting out a country tune at a concert or sharing stories and laughter with friends around a bonfire. When I'm not soaking up the country life and getting my boots dirty, I'm a nurse, caring for folks in my community. Follow along for more stories from the heart of rodeo and country life!
