This Weekend: Vintage Style Bull Riding Gives Back to Veterans

Written by

If you’re looking for last-minute weekend plans and a way to give back to veterans, stop by Lone Star Arena in Stephenville, TX this Friday for the 5th annual Mustachio Bull Bashio. Come watch as both professional and rookie contestants compete for prizes in the open Vintage Style Bull Riding, Best Mustache, Best Dressed (vintage bull hand themed), Top Hand Award, and a Texas Home Grown Radio Open Mic Competition.

Mustaches have been seen on many a bull riding legends dating back from Jim Sharp to Charles Sampson along with many others, proving that the mustache is a timeless and classic western accessory. Mustachio Bull Bashio founder Laddan Ledbetter would agree. Ledbetter started the event in 2011 at Fort Worth’s Billy Bob’s Texas where it remained for three years before Nicole Jaffe and Cole Pierce picked it up and moved it to Stephenville. “Our goals for the Mustachio are to preserve that vintage bull hand style,” stated Nicole Jaffe. “We just want to preserve the history of them and have a good time in the process.”
Wanting to give back, Jaffe and Pierce decided that this year’s proceeds from the event will go to Erath County Veterans as the event is sponsored by the veteran owned and operated clothing company Rank Bull.

Tickets are $15 and are available on the Mustachio Bull Bashio website and also at the door. Event T-Shirts and tank tops are for sale online and at the venue for $20. The event will begin at 7:30 pm on May 6th. Books are now open for non-invitational riders, and only 40 riders will be allowed to enter.
