Reno Rodeo 2026: The Wildest, Richest Rodeo in the West Returns

Rodeo News

Every summer, the Biggest Little City in the World transforms into cowboy country as thousands of rodeo fans pour into northern Nevada for one of the most exciting western events in the nation. The 2026 Reno Rodeo returns June 18 through June 27 at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center, bringing ten unforgettable days filled with championship rodeo action, live entertainment, western tradition, carnival fun, and nonstop nightlife.

For more than a century, the Reno Rodeo has been one of the most respected and celebrated rodeos in the country. Known as the “Wildest, Richest Rodeo in the West,” this iconic Nevada tradition attracts top professional cowboys and cowgirls from across the United States, all competing for massive payouts, championship titles, and the honor of winning in Reno. What started in 1919 as a local rodeo has grown into one of the largest PRCA-sanctioned rodeos in the nation, drawing more than 140,000 spectators each year.

But the Reno Rodeo is about much more than competition. It is a full western celebration where families, friends, tourists, and lifelong rodeo lovers gather to experience the energy, excitement, and spirit of the American West.

America Loves Rodeo

The 2026 Reno Rodeo is proudly embracing a patriotic theme with “America Loves Rodeo,” celebrating the nation’s western heritage while honoring America’s 250th birthday. Throughout the grounds, fans can expect an atmosphere overflowing with red, white, and blue pride as the rodeo pays tribute to the traditions that helped shape the country.

Each night begins with patriotic opening ceremonies that remind fans why rodeo continues to hold such a special place in American culture. Massive flags wave across the arena, horses thunder through the dirt, and the crowd rises together as music echoes through the grandstands. It is one of those moments that instantly gives people chills and sets the tone for the unforgettable night ahead.

The Reno Rodeo has always been deeply connected to western heritage and community pride, and this year’s patriotic celebration only adds to the excitement. From themed decorations and special ceremonies to the unmistakable energy of the crowd, the entire event becomes a celebration of both rodeo and country.

Ten Days of World-Class Rodeo Action

The heart of the Reno Rodeo will always be the competition itself, and 2026 promises another incredible lineup of events featuring some of the toughest athletes in professional sports.

The excitement officially kicks off on June 18 with the fan-favorite Xtreme Bull Riding event. Widely considered one of the most thrilling nights of the rodeo, Xtreme Bull Riding features fearless riders attempting to conquer some of the rankest bulls in the business. The crowd roars as gates swing open and riders fight for eight seconds of pure chaos beneath flashing lights, booming music, and nonstop adrenaline.

From there, the action only intensifies throughout the week. Fans will witness elite competitors battle it out in:

  • Bareback Riding
  • Saddle Bronc Riding
  • Bull Riding
  • Steer Wrestling
  • Tie-Down Roping
  • Team Roping
  • Women’s Barrel Racing
  • Women’s Breakaway Roping
  • Mutton Bustin’ for young future rodeo stars

Every night brings a new wave of excitement as cowboys and cowgirls push themselves to the limit in pursuit of Reno Rodeo glory. One ride or one run can completely change the leaderboard, and the energy inside the arena reflects that intensity from beginning to end.

The Reno Rodeo is known for attracting top-tier talent from across the rodeo world. Many contestants arrive in Reno fighting for valuable PRCA points as they work toward qualifying for the National Finals Rodeo later in the year. That means fans are not just watching a local event. They are witnessing some of the very best rodeo athletes in the world compete at the highest level.

Theme Nights Bring Extra Excitement to Every Evening

One of the things that makes the Reno Rodeo so special each year is the lineup of fan-favorite theme nights that add even more energy and meaning to the event. Throughout the ten-day celebration, different nights highlight traditions, community groups, and causes that bring fans together both inside and outside the arena.

From Military Appreciation Night and Patriot Night to Tough Enough to Wear Pink, the Reno Rodeo uses its platform to celebrate and support the people and causes that matter most to the western community. On Tough Enough to Wear Pink night, the arena transforms into a sea of pink as fans, contestants, and volunteers come together to raise awareness and support for breast cancer fighters and survivors.

Family-focused nights also help make the rodeo welcoming for fans of all ages. Kids’ events, special promotions, and crowd-interactive entertainment keep younger rodeo fans engaged and excited throughout the week. Many nights feature giveaways, contests, and special arena presentations that make every evening feel unique.

Themed nights create an atmosphere where no two rodeo performances feel the same. One night may celebrate America and military service with patriotic ceremonies and tributes, while another focuses on community, family fun, or honoring western traditions that have been part of the rodeo for generations.

These special nights help make the Reno Rodeo more than just a competition. They turn it into a shared experience where the entire community comes together to celebrate Western culture, support meaningful causes, and create unforgettable summer memories under the bright arena lights.

More Than Just Rodeo

While the rodeo action may be the centerpiece, the grounds surrounding the arena are packed with entertainment that keeps fans busy from afternoon until late into the night.

The Reno Rodeo Carnival is a major attraction every year and offers fun for all ages. Bright lights flash across the midway while rides spin high above the crowd, and the smell of fair food fills the summer air. Families can spend hours playing games, riding roller coasters, and enjoying classic carnival treats like funnel cakes, corn dogs, barbecue, kettle corn, and fresh lemonade.

Throughout the grounds, visitors will also find countless western vendors selling everything from handmade jewelry and custom cowboy hats to western apparel, leather goods, and rodeo memorabilia. It is the perfect place to shop for authentic western gear or pick up a souvenir to remember the experience.

Live entertainment can be found around nearly every corner of the rodeo grounds. Musicians, performers, and special events help keep the energy alive all week long. Fans can also meet rodeo athletes during autograph sessions and interact with the western community in a way that makes the Reno Rodeo feel personal and welcoming.

The celebration starts even before the rodeo officially begins with the annual kickoff concert on June 17. Country music fans will gather in the Outdoor Arena to watch multi-platinum country artist Dylan Scott perform and launch the beginning of rodeo week in unforgettable fashion.

Dance the Night Away at the Jack Tent and Coors Tent

Once the final bull has bucked and the arena lights begin to dim, the party is far from over. Some of the biggest crowds each night gather at the legendary Jack Tent and Coors Tent, where the Reno Rodeo nightlife truly comes alive.

The Jack Tent has become one of the most popular gathering spots on the grounds thanks to its high-energy atmosphere, live music, and nonstop dancing. As country music fills the tent, boots hit the dance floor and rodeo fans celebrate well into the night. Whether you are out with friends, meeting new people, or simply enjoying the western party atmosphere, the Jack Tent delivers the kind of nightlife experience that keeps people coming back year after year.

Nearby, the Coors Tent keeps the celebration rolling with cold drinks, packed crowds, and live entertainment that creates an unforgettable summer party scene. Fans can grab a beer, enjoy the music, and soak in the electric atmosphere that makes the Reno Rodeo more than just a sporting event. The laughter, dancing, and excitement inside the tents create memories that often become just as memorable as the rodeo itself.

Together, the Jack Tent and Coors Tent help transform the Reno Rodeo into an all-day and all-night western celebration where the fun never truly stops.

A Tradition That Brings the Community Together

One of the most remarkable things about the Reno Rodeo is the deep sense of community behind it. The event is operated by a nonprofit organization and supported by more than 1,000 dedicated volunteers who work each year tirelessly to make the rodeo possible. The Reno Rodeo also gives back in major ways, supporting local charities, scholarships, youth programs, and community initiatives throughout northern Nevada. Beyond the arena, the rodeo creates a significant economic impact for Reno by bringing visitors, tourism, and business to the region every summer.

For many families, attending the Reno Rodeo is more than just a fun event. It is a tradition passed down through generations. Parents bring their children, grandparents share stories of rodeos past, and first-time visitors quickly discover why this event means so much to the city of Reno.

About the Author:

Biography:

I grew up in Reno, Nevada which often gets confused as a mini Las Vegas. But Reno has so much more than casinos. I grew up branding cattle, hunting with my dad, camping, playing sports, exploring the hills and so on. I found my love for writing early in life and I always had a journal I was filling up. I also found myself diving head first into photography which led me to volunteer for the rodeo I went to every year since birth, the Reno Rodeo. I now write in the Reno Rodeo Magazine and take photos of the rodeo for another committee. My love for country goes back to the early days with my dad floating on a boat fishing listening to old country (90’s or older) and some classic rock n’ roll. I have expanded my passions of writing and photography worldwide, having traveled to the Safaris in Africa, crumbling castles in Scotland, pubs in Germany to the snowy mountain tops of the Swiss Alps; like Ian Munsick, “I see country everywhere.” You can find me now taking pictures of sports or driving around taking pictures of yet another cow. They are too cute not to. It’s guaranteed to find me living my best life. Life is short, so live vibrantly!
