Billings, Montana, is getting ready to welcome one of the Northwest’s premier celebrations of agriculture, livestock, and Western culture as the NILE Stock Show returns October 9–17, 2026.
For more than half a century, the Northern International Livestock Exposition, better known as NILE, has brought together ranchers, livestock exhibitors, horsemen, families, and Western enthusiasts from across the country and Canada. What began as a celebration of agriculture has grown into a week-long experience that showcases the people, animals, and traditions that continue to shape the American West.
From the show ring to the rodeo arena, NILE 2026 will give visitors plenty of reasons to spend a day or the entire week at MetraPark.
A Celebration of the Western Way of Life
NILE’s mission is simple: preserve and embrace the Western way of life.
That mission can be seen throughout the event. The NILE Stock Show brings breeders, exhibitors, and consignors together to showcase some of their best livestock, while the horse events highlight a variety of Western disciplines and horsemanship. The organization also places a major emphasis on youth and agricultural education, helping introduce the next generation to the traditions and industries that make the West what it is today.
The 2026 Stock Show will feature 14 open and junior breed shows, four junior fed market shows, a pen show, and multiple breed sales, making NILE a major destination for anyone interested in livestock and agriculture. Whether you’re a longtime livestock enthusiast or simply curious about the world of ranching and agriculture, NILE offers an opportunity to see that lifestyle up close.
Top Horses, Western Competition & the Gold Buckle Select Horse Sale
Horses are another major part of the NILE experience.
Throughout the week, competitors will take part in events representing several Western equine disciplines. The NILE horse program includes barrel racing, the AQHA Ranching Heritage Challenge, the Versatility Ranch Horse Competition, ranch horse events, and the NILE Gold Buckle Select Horse Sale.
The Gold Buckle Select Horse Sale is especially notable, featuring carefully selected horses for buyers looking for quality prospects and performers. For horse lovers, NILE isn’t simply something to watch from the stands. It is a chance to experience the depth of today’s Western horse industry while being surrounded by some of the best exhibitors and competitors in the region.
The NILE Ranch Rodeo Brings Ranch Work to the Arena
When the sun goes down, the action moves into the First Interstate Arena for one of NILE’s most popular traditions: the NILE Ranch Rodeo.
The 2026 Ranch Rodeo Finals are scheduled for Saturday, October 10, at 6:30 p.m. at First Interstate Arena at MetraPark. Unlike a traditional rodeo, ranch rodeo is built around events inspired by the everyday work of working cowboys. Teams compete in events such as team sorting, team doctoring, and team load and tie, with the finals adding team branding to the competition. A standalone Ranch Bronc Ride also gets the night started.
The result is an event that gives fans a closer look at the teamwork, horsemanship, and cattle-handling skills required on a real ranch. Eight teams advance to the finals after the preliminary round, setting the stage for a Saturday night showdown where every second counts.
More Than a Stock Show
One of the best parts of NILE is that you don’t have to be a livestock exhibitor to enjoy it. The NILE Trade Show features more than 100 booths spread across three main locations at MetraPark. Visitors can browse Western clothing, jewelry, boots, home décor, and other goods, while agricultural vendors showcase equipment, livestock handling products, trailers, fencing, and more.
It’s an easy place to spend an afternoon browsing between events, picking up something new for your Western wardrobe or discovering products geared toward ranch and agricultural life.
A Place for the Next Generation
NILE’s commitment to the future of the Western lifestyle is another reason this event stands apart.
Youth programs include 4-H and FFA contests, the 4th Grade Agriculture Education program, the NILE Merit Heifer Program, the NILE Colt Classic, scholarships and the Radiant Rodeo. These programs are designed to give young people hands-on opportunities to learn about agriculture, livestock and horsemanship. The organization says NILE impacts nearly 10,000 youth each year and provides more than $55,000 in cash and live-animal scholarships.
For families attending NILE, that means the event isn’t just about watching competitions. It’s also about seeing where the future of agriculture and the Western lifestyle is headed.
