Toyota debuted the fifth-generation GR Supra, the first global Toyota GAZOO Racing model, in January 2019 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The 2020 Supra goes on sale this summer according to Toyota, and will be available in two grades, 3.0 and 3.0 Premium, along with a Launch edition based on the 3.0 Premium grade.
The first-production 2020 Toyota GR Supra, “Global #1” wowed fans at the 48th Annual Barrett-Jackson Auction last January in Scottsdale. The vehicle auctioned for $2.1 million, with proceeds benefiting the American Heart Association and the Bob Woodruff Foundation.
The 2020 Supra blends power, precision and agility from its rear-wheel-drive design, with a low center of gravity and optimal weight balance, says Toyota. Other features include a turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine. The 3.0-liter twin-scroll turbo six produces 335 hp and 365-lb-ft of torque, teamed with a quick-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, according to Toyota. Toyota projects 0 to 60 mph acceleration in 4.1 seconds, making the Supra the quickest Toyota-branded production vehicle thus far.
But this vehicle isn’t all about flash and speed. Standard safety features include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning with steering assist, and automatic high beam and road sign assist. Additional safety options can be added including adaptive full-speed cruise control, blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert and a rear-end collision warning system.
Toyota also didn’t skimp on comfort or style. Keyless Smart Entry, dual automatic climate control, auto-dimming rearview mirrors, rear camera, rain sensor windshield wipers, garage door opener, power folding mirrors and a leather-wrapped steering wheel are all standard. The 3.0 grade features a 6.5-inch display operated by a controller on the console, with Bluetooth and iPod capability. And the 3.0 Premium grade offers an 8.8-inch touchscreen display with navigation, rotary touch controller, Supra Connect services, wireless Apple CarPlay, premium 12-speaker JBL audio system and wireless phone charging. Purchasers of the 3.0 grade can also add the JBL audio system and navigation.
